Emma Watson: 'I have the best lines'

Emma Watson, who plays Harry Potter's mate Hermione in the upcoming film, has said she has some of the best lines in the film.
Eleven-year-old Emma gave her first major interview to CBBC's Newsround.
"We're going to get killed, or even worse, expelled!" was Emma's favourite line she had to deliver as goody-two-shoes Hermione.
She also said one character was constantly on the receiving end of her sharp tongue: "Hermione always has some snooty lines for Ron. He gets the worst of it really."
'Stunts were fun'
Emma also told Newsround's Lizo Mzimba that she really enjoyed all the stunts the actors had to perform for the film:
"In the troll scene there were lots of stunts. That's one of the reasons I enjoyed it, but it was hard as well.
"I had to do lots of darting under sinks, running through legs. But they haven't used all the stunts I did and that's just not good enough!"
Second film
Top secret filming is just getting underway for the second Harry Potter adventure - The Chamber of Secrets.
Emma says: "The thing I'm looking forward to most is how they're going to make me look like a cat. That'll be very interesting."
The movie has its world premiere on Sunday and opens across the UK on 16 November.

What did you do when you found out you got the part of Hermione?
I rang my best friend, just as I'd been told, literally minutes after I'd been told, I rung my friend and she answered and she said: "So have you got it?" And I said: "Yes." And she screamed, she literally just went arghhh - it was like five minutes, I had to hold the phone here, not to be able to break my ear and she was so excited she was almost more excited than me.
What were you most looking forward to about the filming?
I think the best thing which I was looking forward to seeing from the book was just the outlook from the whole of the school because it describes in the book coming over in a boat across the river to Hogwarts and just the first view - that took us ages, we had to keep going ahh, wow, ooh - a bit like watching fireworks going off, it was like ooh, eee, ahh, ooh.
What was your best scene?
My favourite scene was probably the most difficult scene which was really weird - it was the troll scene. I had to do lots and lots and lots and lots of stunts which I think is one of the reasons I enjoyed it but one of the reasons it was so hard as well.
They had six cubicles and they had to put a safety mat underneath it, so in the end I was climbing on to something - we actually measured it, 30 centimetres high, I had to climb on to six cubicles and I kept banging my head, I was darting under sinks to make sure the troll didn't hit me, I had to do loads of running through legs and scrambling around the place and the really annoying thing was that they haven't used all of the stunts which I did, which was really annoying - not good enough!
What was your fave line from the film?
I liked the line at the end where I said: "I'm going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed or worse expelled!"
And another one was where I said: "Honestly you're going to take someone's eye out!" Hermione always has some really snooty lines for Ron, I think Ron gets the worst of it really.
What do you think you'll enjoy the most about filming the second Potter adventure?
The thing I'm looking forward to most in the second film is probably how they're going to make me look like a cat, that'll be very interesting.

It's hard to believe that just a few short years ago Harry Potter's Emma Watson was just a fresh-faced eleven year-old taken aback by the overwhelming reception for The Philosopher's Stone and her role as young witch Hermione Granger. FilmFocus spoke to her this week, at the Empire Awards on Sunday night, and now the only description springing to mind to attach to the, now, fourteen year-old is "seasoned pro."
In an effort to explain this incredibly quick transformation, we're quick to suggest that Harry Potter must be the World's best acting school, she's been directed by the likes of Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón and, now, Mike Newell in her short career. "I am so lucky," she told us, "I've worked with the crème-de-la-crème of British actors and actresses, all in one film; I've worked with some fantastic directors. I'm very lucky."
But what of working with Mike Newell for the fourth film, Goblet of Fire? "He's a fantastic director," she told us, "and he's just a really, really lovely man. He's taught me a lot, he really has. What's lovely is that he's a real actor's director. He really cares about the acting which, from my point of view, is fantastic."
Watson rejoins fellow cast members Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) and Rupert Grint (Ron) on the film, currently in post-production.
We're the first to champion a full seven Harry Potter adventures on the big screen with these three consummate professionals, but there's been talk of replacing them for future films. "I think I'm growing up with the character," she told us, playing down rumours that Goblet of Fire might be her last, "People have been talking about outgrowing the character, but that's not really possible."
So then, can we expect her, as well as Radcliffe and Grint, to start in Order of the Phoenix? "To be honest," she told us, "One film at a time! Goblet of Fire has taken eleven months to shoot and I think everyone's just focussing on getting this one to the end and then we'll start thinking about the future."
We also caught up with Jason Isaacs, the New British Bad Guy ™, who played the aristocratic and enigmatic Lucius Malfoy in the second film, Chamber of Secrets. He's had a Potter hiatus, having not appeared in Prisoner of Azkaban, but he's back in Goblet of Fire. "It's all the same crew," he told us, "and they didn't do number three. I assumed they'd been there the whole time, but they came back with me. It was lovely to do scenes with Robert Hardy [Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge] again, but mostly all of my stuff is with Ralph Fiennes who plays Lord Voldemort. It's a tour de force; a real performance and joy to sit back and watch."
With the hiatus, Isaacs told us he's noted marked improvements in the young cast members, "and they've not just improved," he went on, "they're almost unrecognisable. Rupert is this great big hulking man and Tom [Felton], who plays my son, is now driving! They've both left school. Apart for the fact that they're lovely actors, they're all so incredibly technically proficient. They know how to negotiate the diplomacy of the set so well. They've gone from being children to being seasoned old pros. It's rather scary for someone like me to see them catch up and zoom ahead."
So if Emma is remaining tight-lipped, will Jason let us in on a little Order of Phoenix gossip? There had been news that he was already signed into the fifth film. "Would that that were true," he explained, "it's utter bollocks unfortunately. No-one's confirmed, they haven't even got a script yet. I said I hoped I was going to be in it and I had to go to the producers and say, 'look I'm sorry you've seen it in the press everywhere, when you haven't even decided what the script is,' but, yeah, I hope they ask me. It's a riot."

The History of T.W.W.N.
I picked up the first Harry Potter book in the fall of 1999. A friend of my mothers had sent it to us to read. I absolutely LOVED the first book, but I wasn't hooked on Harry Potter until I read the second and third books. After this, I went into a Harry Potter frenzy. With my knowledge of computers I designed Harry Potter themed postcards, costars and bookmarks. I also made several plaster carvings, one of which was used as a chocolate candybar mold shaped as a lightning bolt. I even made a Harry Potter board game complete with a playing board, 3 sets of cards, rules, and playing pieces. It's a great game!
Some time after the fourth book came out I began designing a Harry Potter website. I worked on it for about a year and then in the winter of 2002 I really began working on the website tirelessly. It took me several days to come up with a good name for the website. I wanted something unique, something that was rarely referred to, but would easily be recognizable by Harry Potter fans. Finally, I came up with T.W.W.N.: The Wireless Wizarding Network. Now for those of you HP Sleuths out there, you know the true name from the books is actually The Wizarding Wireless Network. Well it was by accident that I switched "wizarding wireless" around. When I had come up with the name for the website I had been relying on my own memory which is usually reliable but this time I mixed up the words. But all in all, I think this small mix up turned out to be just fine. It gives us a more unique name, plus I think The Wireless Wizarding Network sounds better. ;-)

As Hermione, Emma Watson has the tough job of playing the stuck-up, perfect student. In real life, however, Emma is much more laid back than her big-screen counterpart. We chatted with Emma about her role as Hermione, what it was like working with animals, and Hagrid's Macarena dancing.
Q: What has changed in your life since the first Harry Potter movie came out?
Emma: Most of the change happened during the first film. I occasionally get recognized. I think everyone's been a bit more enjoyable on the second film, because they know the people and they know what they're doing.
Q: What is different about Hermione in the second film?
Emma: I think all of the characters have matured. Hermione has become a bit more laid back and she's not so mothering to Harry and Ron. She finally has a different hairstyle, which is nice.
Q: What was it like working with the animals on set?
Emma: I really love animals and enjoy working with them. It can be quite hard. It's very hard to tell a dog, "Do it again, you weren't sitting in the right position." You have to be quite patient because Fang drools everywhere. It takes ages to get off your robes, and Hedwig flies in the wrong direction. Most of the time they get it right, which is absolutely amazing! Their trainers must have the hardest job ever.
Q: What was it like to work with Kenneth Branagh, who plays Gilderoy Lockhart?
Emma: He is the nicest guy. He is absolutely fantastic. He's really down to earth, really friendly, and he has a great sense of humor. I really liked working with him. He's a fantastic actor as well. There's such a presence about him.
Q: Would you share any funny stories that happened on the set?
Emma: [There were] 300 extras in the same room for one whole week. Everyone is dying of boredom and they need to be laughing; Robbie Coltrane [Hagrid] had to stand up on the tables and dance. They did the Macarena and the cancan, and it worked! It was the highlight of the whole filming! I never laughed so much in my life!
Q: What was the most difficult scene to shoot?
Emma: Professor Sprout's class was pretty hard. There are so many scenes where I literally couldn't say my lines. Hermione gets such mouthfuls, it's like a tongue twister in each paragraph. She talks like a dictionary. She is a dictionary.
Q: Do you think the movies do a good job re-creating the books?
Emma: I think it's really, really important to stay truthful to the books because they're fantastic books. Chris [Columbus] is working really close with J.K. Rowling, and I think that's what makes the films so great—the fact that we work with the author who has all of the images and inspirations in her head.
Q: Why do you think it's important to read?
Emma: It's important to read because it's really good for your [vocabulary]. It's really good for your imagination. I enjoy reading because I find it relaxing.

More photos of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" are coming out from French magazine Cinelive. Posted by UniversHarryPotter, the three fresh pictures give another take on the three major characters in the sixth "Harry Potter" movie, Harry, Ron and Ginny. One of the pictures, which is the cover of the mag, focuses on Daniel Radcliffe's Harry with his lit-up wand.
The other two pictures came from the article inside the magazine. One presents Harry and Rupert Grint's Ron standing behind a wall and anxiously spying on Professor Slughorn, while the other displays a close-up look at Harry's love interest and Ron's little sister, Ginny, who is played by Bonnie Wright.
According to Rupert Grint's fansite Ice Cream Man, the article discusses about the evolving friendship between Harry and Ron. In it, it is told that Ron has matured and realizes that girls are interested in him.

Emma Watson has said that she is happy living a normal life rather than a glamorous Hollywood existence. The Harry Potter actress, who became famous after taking on the role of Hermione Granger at the age of 11, revealed that she tries to keep her feet on the ground whenever she can. "I have a more normal life than people expect. When I take public transport, people are like: 'That girl looks like the girl from Harry Potter, but it can't be her on the train,'" she said. (more)

Our thoughts: I found it nearly impossible to sit through “The Tale of Despereaux” without repeatedly checking the time. The big-screen adaptation of Kate Dicamillo’s beloved book could and should have been an energetic and touching family adventure, but instead, it’s nothing but a lifeless, simplistic bore that falls flat both in terms of story and characters.

Mice have enjoyed a great ride in the movies. The animated variety first rose to prominence thanks to Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse in the late 20s, enjoyed a rebirth as heroes in the late 70s and 80s with The Rescuers, The Secret of Nimh, The Great Mouse Detective, and An American Tail, and overflowed into live-action territory a few years later with Stuart Little. More recently, Flushed Away was a superior entertainment about a spoiled upper-class mouse who must learn to survive in the wild and wooly sewers, while the superb Ratatouille gave a rat a rare favorable turn in the spotlight as a culinary artist.
Adapted by Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Dave) from the award-winning book by Kate Dicamillo, The Tale of Despereaux features both a rat and a mouse in leading roles, but the self-described fairy tale is much more than a slapdash character study of two rodents. The

Harry Potter actress Emma Watson feels sorry for superstars such as Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, because she loves living "a normal life".
The star shot to fame aged just 11 but hasn't let it go to her head, preferring to concentrate on her work rather than living the showbiz lifestyle.
She says, "I have a more normal life than people expect. When I take public transport, people are like, 'That girl looks like the girl from Harry Potter, but it can't be her on the train'. I get stopped by people, but that's fine. I'd never want to be so famous that I couldn't live a normal life to a certain extent."
And the thought of being too famous to go out unrecognised terrifies the teenage actress.
She adds, "I can't imagine anything lonelier, just not being able to be part of the real world and being trapped and locked in hotel rooms and cars."

The Tale of Despereaux unfolds like a children’s book, which is good news since this is, after all, adapted from a children’s book. Without being overly complicated, its story is a bit of a page-turner, although some of the time you’d be content to just stare at the pictures.
Animation has likely never been a bigger financial boon for studios (in a time when most other movies carry with them huge question marks), and it has never been more on the forefront of emerging technologies. Despite any traditional soft spots you might have for Disney classics like Bambi, this is a true golden age of animated film.
Despereaux comes to us not from Disney, DreamWorks or even Fox, but rather from Universal. Though its only other

Start Date of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' Filming Tossed Out

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" will kick off its production in spring of 2009. While at the L.A. premiere of "Yes Man", "Harry Potter" producer David Heyman lets it slip that the work on the follow-up to "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is about to begin as they have planned to start shooting in February.
On the occasion, Heyman also gave out on how long it will take to shoot the two-part project. "We finished the sixth film which'll be coming out next summer," the producer of "I Am Legend" explained, "and we start filming the seventh which we'll be breaking into two parts for a 54 week shoot starting in February."

Posted by UniversHarryPotter, the three fresh pictures give another take on the three major characters in the sixth "Harry Potter" movie, Harry, Ron and Ginny. One of the pictures, which is the cover of the mag, focuses on Daniel Radcliffe's Harry with his lit-up wand.
The other two pictures came from the article inside the magazine. One presents Harry and Rupert Grint's Ron standing behind a wall and anxiously spying on Professor Slughorn, while the other displays a close-up look at Harry's love interest and Ron's little sister, Ginny, who is played by Bonnie Wright.

While at the L.A. premiere of "Yes Man", "Harry Potter" producer David Heyman lets it slip that the work on the follow-up to "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is about to begin as they have planned to start shooting in February.
On the occasion, Heyman also gave out on how long it will take to shoot the two-part project. "We finished the sixth film which'll be coming out next summer," the producer of "I Am Legend" explained, "and we start filming the seventh which we'll be breaking into two parts for a 54 week shoot starting in February."

Posted by UniversHarryPotter, the three fresh pictures give another take on the three major characters in the sixth "Harry Potter" movie, Harry, Ron and Ginny. One of the pictures, which is the cover of the mag, focuses on Daniel Radcliffe's Harry with his lit-up wand.
The other two pictures came from the article inside the magazine. The Tale of Despereaux unfolds like a children’s book, which is good news since this is, after all, adapted from a children’s book. Without being overly complicated, its story is a bit of a page-turner, although some of the time you’d be content to just stare at the pictures.
Animation has likely never been a bigger financial boon for studios (in a time when most other movies carry with them huge question marks), and it has never been more on the forefront of emerging technologies. Despite any traditional soft spots you might have for Disney classics like Bambi, this is a true golden age of animated film.
Despereaux comes to us not from Disney, DreamWorks or even Fox, but rather from Universal. Though its only other

More photos of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" are coming out from French magazine Cinelive. Posted by UniversHarryPotter, the three fresh pictures give another take on the three major characters in the sixth "Harry Potter" movie, Harry, Ron and Ginny. One of the pictures, which is the cover of the mag, focuses on Daniel Radcliffe's Harry with his lit-up wand.
The other two pictures came from the article inside the magazine. One presents Harry and Rupert Grint's Ron standing behind a wall and anxiously spying on Professor Slughorn, while the other displays a close-up look at Harry's love interest and Ron's little sister, Ginny, who is played by Bonnie Wright.
According to Rupert Grint's fansite Ice Cream Man, the article discusses about the evolving friendship between Harry and Ron. In it, it is told that Ron has matured and realizes that girls are interested in him.

Our thoughts: I found it nearly impossible to sit through “The Tale of Despereaux” without repeatedly checking the time. The big-screen adaptation of Kate Dicamillo’s beloved book could and should have been an energetic and touching family adventure, but instead, it’s nothing but a lifeless, simplistic bore that falls flat both in terms of story and characters.

Mice have enjoyed a great ride in the movies. The animated variety first rose to prominence thanks to Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse in the late 20s, enjoyed a rebirth as heroes in the late 70s and 80s with The Rescuers, The Secret of Nimh, The Great Mouse Detective, and An American Tail, and overflowed into live-action territory a few years later with Stuart Little. More recently, Flushed Away was a superior entertainment about a spoiled upper-class mouse who must learn to survive in the wild and wooly sewers, while the superb Ratatouille gave a rat a rare favorable turn in the spotlight as a culinary artist.

The Tale of Despereaux unfolds like a children’s book, which is good news since this is, after all, adapted from a children’s book. Without being overly complicated, its story is a bit of a page-turner, although some of the time you’d be content to just stare at the pictures.
Animation has likely never been a bigger financial boon for studios (in a time when most other movies carry with them huge question marks), and it has never been more on the forefront of emerging technologies. Despite any traditional soft spots you might have for Disney classics like Bambi, this is a true golden age of animated film.
Despereaux comes to us not from Disney, DreamWorks or even Fox, but rather from Universal. Though its only other

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" will kick off its production in spring of 2009. While at the L.A. premiere of "Yes Man", "Harry Potter" producer David Heyman lets it slip that the work on the follow-up to "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is about to begin as they have planned to start shooting in February.
On the occasion, Heyman also gave out on how long it will take to shoot the two-part project. "We finished the sixth film which'll be coming out next summer," the producer of "I Am Legend" explained, "and we start filming the seventh which we'll be breaking into two parts for a 54 week shoot starting in February."

Career
Harry Potter
In 1999, casting began for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the United States), the film adaptation of British author J. K. Rowling's bestselling novel.[9] Of importance to the casting directors were the lead role of Harry Potter and the two supporting roles of Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, Harry's two friends. Casting agents found Watson through her Oxford theatre teacher,[9] and producers were impressed by her confidence. After eight auditions, producer David Heyman told Watson and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast, respectively, as Hermione Granger, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Rowling supported Watson from her first screen test.[9]
Watson's debut as Hermione came in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The film broke records for opening-day sales and opening weekend takings and was the highest-grossing film of 2001.[11][12] Critics praised the performances of the three leads, often singling out Watson for particular acclaim. The Daily Telegraph called her performance "admirable",[13] and IGN said she "stole the show".[14] Watson was nominated for five awards for her performance in Philosopher's Stone, winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress.[15]
A year later, Watson again starred as Hermione in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second installment of the series. Though the film received mixed reviews because of its pace and direction, critics were positive about the performances. The Los Angeles Times said Watson and her peers had matured between films,[16] while The Times criticised director Chris Columbus for "under-employing" Watson's hugely popular character.[17] Watson received an Otto Award from the German magazine Die Welt for her performance.[18] In 2004, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released. Watson was appreciative of the more assertive role Hermione played, calling her character "charismatic" and "a fantastic role to play".[19] Although critics turned away from Radcliffe's acting talent, labelling him wooden, Watson continued to be praised; The New York Times lauded her performance, saying "Luckily Mr. Radcliffe's blandness is offset by Ms. Watson's spiky impatience. Harry may show off his expanding wizardly skills ... but Hermione ... earns the loudest applause with a decidedly unmagical punch to Draco Malfoy's deserving nose".[20] Although Prisoner of Azkaban remains the lowest-grossing Harry Potter film as of January 2008, Watson's personal performance won her two Otto Awards and the Child Performance of the Year award from Total Film.[21][22][23]
With Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), both Watson and the Harry Potter film series reached new milestones. The film set records for a Harry Potter opening weekend, a non-May opening weekend in the US, and an opening weekend in the UK. Critics praised the increasing maturity of Watson and her teenage co-stars; the New York Times called her performance "touchingly earnest".[24] For Watson, much of the humour of the film sprang from the tension among the three lead characters as they matured. She said, "I loved all the arguing ... I think it's much more realistic that they would argue and that there would be problems."[25] Nominated for three awards for Goblet of Fire, Watson won a bronze Otto Award.[26][27][28] Later that year, Watson became the youngest person to appear on the cover of Teen Vogue.[29] 2006 found Watson playing Hermione in The Queen's Handbag, a special mini-episode of Harry Potter in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday.[30]
The fifth film in the Harry Potter franchise, 2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, was a financial success, setting a record worldwide, opening-weekend gross of $332.7 million.[31] Watson won the inaugural National Movie Award for Best Female Performance.[32] As the fame of the actress and the series continued, Watson and fellow Harry Potter co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint left imprints of their hands, feet, and wands in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood on 9 July 2007.[33]
Work outside Harry Potter
Watson's first non-Harry Potter role was in the 2007 TV film Ballet Shoes, as Pauline Fossil.[34] She said of the project, "I was all set to go back to school after finishing Harry Potter [and the Order of the Phoenix] but couldn't resist Ballet Shoes. I really loved it".[35] A BBC adaptation of Noel Streatfeild's novel of the same name, the film stars Watson as aspiring actress Pauline Fossil, the eldest of three sisters around whom the story revolves.[36] Director Sandra Goldbacher commented, "Emma was perfect for Pauline ... She has a piercing, delicate aura that makes you want to gaze and gaze at her".[35] Ballet Shoes was broadcast on Boxing Day in the United Kingdom,[37] to an estimated audience of 5.2 million (22 percent of the viewing total).[38] The film received generally poor critical reviews, and The Times described it as "progress[ing] with little emotional investment, or magic, or dramatic momentum".[39][40] However, the performances of its cast were generally praised; The Daily Telegraph wrote the film "was certainly well done, not least because it confirmed how good child actors are these days".[41]
Watson starred in the animated film The Tale of Despereaux, released in December 2008.[5] She voiced the character of Princess Pea in the film, a children's comedy which also starred Matthew Broderick and Tracey Ullman.
Future plans
Despite rumours that she had refused the final two Harry Potter installments,[8] Watson signed for the sixth and seventh films in March 2007. In 1999, casting began for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the United States), the film adaptation of British author J. K. Casting agents found Watson through her Oxford theatre teacher,[9] and producers were impressed by her confidence.
